The Faculty in Literacy Studies

In Literacy Studies, our degree programs are designed to maximize opportunities for students to work closely with a faculty that is committed to excellence in teaching. The faculty has received national and international recognition for their research and scholarship. They are committed to providing students in literacy studies with opportunities to participate in the intellectual discussions that frame current understandings of school literacy practices, as well as local, global, and virtual literacy practices.

The Literacy Studies faculty share and develop expertise in the following areas:

• literacy development: from early childhood through adolescence
• reading and writing assessment and evaluation strategies: individual and group 
• readers and writers workshops, K-12
• bilingual/dual language education
• dual literacy/special education option
• children's/ young adult literature and media
• literacy within and across curriculum and content areas
• assessment driven (evidence based) literacy support
• understanding standardized assessment and evaluating reading programs
• language and culture
• new media literacy (strength in analyzing, evaluating, and creating messages in multiple media)
• literacy within and across curriculum and content areas
