Masters Programs in Literacy Studies

The following masters programs lead to NYS certification as a Literacy Specialist:
- MSED in Literacy Studies (B-6) or (5-12) 36 s.h.
- MA in the Teaching of Writing (B-6) or (5-12) 36 s.h.
In addition the following dual program leads to NYS certification as a Literacy Specialist and a Teacher of Special Education:
These programs are designed for New York State initially-certified teachers in elementary or secondary education who want to earn a NYS professional certification as a Literacy Specialist, and in the case of the dual program, two certifications in Literacy and Special Education. Students also have the option of working toward an additional certification in a second developmental area while enrolled in one of the programs.

The Certificate of Advanced Studies in Literacy Studies (CAS)
is a post-masters program that leads to NYS certification as a Literacy Specialist. This 27 credit program is designed for New York State initially-certified teachers in elementary or secondary education who have already earned a masters degree and who want to earn a NYS professional certification as a Literacy Specialist.
