Teaching English as a Second Language Programs

• Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL), M.S.Ed. 
  Courses in this Master of Science in Education program lead toward New York State initial teacher certification for teaching English as a Second Language. The program is designed to blend on-campus preparation with field experiences in a variety of school settings, culminating in full-time student teaching. Literacy education, multicultural education, meeting the needs of learners with exceptionalities and the use of technology are integrated throughout all aspects of the program. The program conforms with the National TESOL Standards and the requirements of the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards.

• Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL), Advanced Certificate
  Courses in this program lead toward New York state initial teacher certification for teaching English as a Second Language (PreK-12). This program is intended for teachers who hold a master's or higher degree in education as well as New York state certification in an area other than TESOL. The program is designed to blend on-campus preparation with field experience in a variety of school settings, culminating in full-time practicum. Literacy education, multicultural education, meeting the needs of learners with exceptionalities and the use of technology are integrated throughout all aspects of the program. The program conforms with the National TESOL Standards and the requirements of the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. 

• Languages Other Than English & Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, M.S.Ed.
  The Master of Science in Education in Languages other than English (LOTE) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), a unique dual program, leads to two certifications in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and teaching foreign languages.  This is our most popular M.S.Ed. program in the arena of foreign language, TESOL, and bilingual education and is not offered at any other colleges or universities in the Long Island region.

• Languages Other Than English (LOTE) & Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), M.A.
  The Master of Arts in Languages Other Than English (LOTE) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is a 37-credit program intended primarily for international students who wish to become teachers of Languages Other Than English (LOTE) and Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). The program is designed to blend on-campus preparation with field experiences in a variety of settings. Literacy education, multicultural education, meeting the needs of learners with exceptionalities, and the use of technology are integrated throughout all aspects of the program. This program does not lead to New York state certification.
