Emily Lowe Gallery, behind Emily Lowe Hall, South Campus Participate in this enjoyable and lively discovery workshop led by Nancy Richner, education director at the Hofstra University Museum. Drawing from the life experiences of each participant and using works from the Museum's two current exhibitions, Barbara Roux: Environments and The Disappearing Landscape: Selections from the Hofstra University Museum Collection, attendees will enhance their ability to interpret and discuss works of art. No experience necessary!

The Natural Pen: Creating Poetry from Nature's Inspiration with Patricia Navarra

Commemorating Holocaust Remembrance Day, Yonia Fain: Remembrance opens with a performance by Sigma'cappella, Hofstra University’s co-ed vocal a’capella group, along with a reading of the artist’s poetry by Bob Spiotto, Executive Director, Hofstra Entertainment.

The Hevreh Ensemble: Reflection and Remembrance

This exhibit-related program features the internationally acclaimed Hevreh Ensemble performing original works by group member and composer Jeff Adler. THe musical compositions combine classical, jazz, and world music elements that resonate with themes relevant to the exhibition Yonia Fain: Remembrance.

Yonia Fain: The Eye of the Storm

The Eye of the Storm is a documentary about artist Yonia Fain, whose work is the subject of the exhibition Yonia Fain: Remembrance. Narrated by playwright Harold Pinter, and including interviews with the artst, this film examines the ways that Fain's life history and experience with the Holocaust have influenced his art.

Shirley Romaine: Bitter Herbs and Honey

In conjunction with the exhibition Yonia Fain: Remembrance, actress Shirley Romaine creates a performance including Yiddish, Israeli and American Jewish women poets and writers such as Kadya Molodovsky, Rachel Korn, Celia Dropkin, Dahlia Ravikovitch, Leah Goldberg, Lila Zeiger, Muriel Rukeyser, Grace Paley, Marge Piercy and Beyla Gottesman. Shirley Romaine shares their works, which express themes of love, longing, loss, hope and joy, and brings us a history of Jewish women in the 20th century.

Join Detective Artie Fact at the Dutch Festival to uncover clues to help solve a mystery in the outdoor sculpture collection on Hofstra University’s South Campus. Meet at Emily Lowe Gallery to pick up your caper kit, have fun while discovering more about these works, and at the end of the caper return to Emily Lowe Gallery for a snack and a prize.

Join Connie Roberts, Hofstra University adjunct instructor of English, for a poetry workshop offered in the midst of the exhibition Yonia Fain: Remembrance. Participants will use the works on view as inspiration and will share the poems they create with the group.
