Center for University Advising

Mission

The Center for University Advising (CUA) supports and guides Hofstra undergraduate students as they explore, identify, and achieve academic goals while fostering their autonomy, responsibility, and love of learning. Through an individualized approach, the Center for University Advising teaches students how to use campus resources to promote their academic endeavors and personal growth. We also serve as an advocate and liaison with other offices to create a collaborative and supportive environment for all students.

Hofstra University views academic advising as a partnership, where students and advisors discuss academic interests, set goals, and monitor the accomplishment of such goals. Students and deans have a shared responsibility in making their partnership a success. All undergraduate students are assigned a dean in University Advising to serve as their general academic advisor from admission to graduation. Once students declare a major, they will be assigned to a faculty advisor within their academic department and should contact their faculty advisor for major-related advising concerns. Throughout their journey at Hofstra, students can rely on both their deans in University Advising and their faculty advisors to provide support for their academic endeavors.

In addition to advising and academic planning, the Center for University Advising hosts signature registration events for Hofstra students! One of these events is our annual Course Registration Carnival in the fall. Registration events provide an opportunity for students to connect with their peers, receive one-on-one attention from an advising dean, and celebrate creating a new course schedule. Take a look at some highlights from our fall event. CUA also hosts Dos and Donuts of Registration in the spring.
