Through the PridePrint system, students are provided with 120 print credits per year (1200 B&W double-sided or single-sided pages on main campus printers), funded by the Student Technology Fee, that allow them to print in the universities computer labs, computer equip classrooms, and from their personal devices. By installing a small PridePrint client on their computer, students can print and release their print job from any one of over 40 PridePrint release stations located in over 30 different locations on campus. You'll find the current list of PridePrint release locations below.

Q:   Do I have to keep the PridePrint client open to print?

A:   Yes, PridePrint client must be open but it can be minimized to your task bar or your dock.

Q:   Can I print in color?

A:   At this time there are color PridePrint Release Stations available in Calkins Lab and Hammer Lab. In addition there are color printers in the School of Medicine and the Law School which are available to students attending these schools.

Q:   This service just doesn't work. What can I do?

A:   If you encounter a problem while releasing your print job, please follow the instructions provided on the release station to call or text us with a description of the problem. If you prefer, you can e-mail SCS@Hofstra.edu with your name, location, and a description of the problem (please include any error message you received.) We will address the problem as quickly as possible and notify you once the printer is working again. If you are having a problem using PridePrint on your computer, please stop by the Technical Support Center (125B Axinn Library - in Hammer Lab) between 8AM and midnight with the computer having the problem so that we can troubleshoot further.

  • Known Issues

    All Operating Systems:

    1.   When you attempt to print a document, your computer freezes at a “processing” or “printing” screen.

Cause:   This can happen if you do not have the PridePrint client open. Please launch the client by clicking on its icon in the Start Menu or in your Apps folder if you are using a Mac.

    2.   When you swipe your ID card at a PridePrint release station, or look at your jobs on the PridePrint website, you see another users print jobs mixed in with yours.

Cause:   When two users have a computer with the same exact ‘computer name’, both have the PridePrint client installed and both are connected to the wireless network at the same time, then it is possible for one user to print and have their print jobs end up in the other users PridePrint queue/job list.  Unfortunately there is no technical solution that we can implement to resolve this issue.  The only way to avoid this issue is for everyone to have a unique ‘computer name’ set on their computer.  Many Windows computers come with a default computer name (i.e. “OWNER”) or create a computer name during first startup using the owners first name (i.e. "JOHN-HP”), these names are not unique.  In order to avoid the problem described above we ask all users to set the name of their computer to something as unique as possible.  If you want to change the name of your computer but don't know how please stop by the Technical Support Center in the back of Hammer Lab (Axinn Library room 125B) for assistance.

    Mac Specific:

    1.   When you attempt to print a document, a Mac OS dialog box (not the PridePrint dialog box) pops up and asks for a username and password but no username and password you enter will work.

Cause:   On occasion the Mac PridePrint client will malfunction and needs to be reinstalled.  This problem started with the release of Mac OSX version 10.7 (Lion.)  We have notified the vendor about this problem.

    2.   When you release your print job at a PridePrint printer your document contains error codes and/or some of the pages don't print .

Cause:   This is a known issue that can occur when printing PDF document from the Apple "Preview" application.  We highly recommend that you print PDF documents from either Google Chrome or Adobe Acrobat Reader (both applications are free).

    Windows Specific:

    1.   The printer is listed as being offline.

Cause:   You must be connected to the 'eduroam' wireless network to print to the PridePrint printers on your computer. You cannot print to the PridePrint printers on your computer while connected to 'Hofstra Guest' or when you're off campus.

    2.   When you release your print job at a PridePrint printer nothing comes out (no errors).

Cause:   This is a known issue with the Microsoft "Reader" application in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.  The problem occurs most frequently when printing PDF documents from the "Reader" application.   We highly recommend that you print PDF documents from either Google Chrome or Adobe Acrobat Reader (both applications are free).  Also, make sure that you're using the latest version of the Windows PridePrint client found in 'my apps.'

Cause:   If this happens but you're not using the "Reader" app in Windows 8.1 them there may be a problem with the PridePrint release station. Follow the instructions on the sign next to the printer to text us for help or call our Technical Support number, 516-463-7777 option 1, for assistance.  Someone from our office will remotely check the printer and provide instructions.

    3.   When you print from your computer nothing seems to happen (no errors).

Cause:   The client is not installed or not running. Double check that the PridePrint client is installed and running.

Cause:   You must be connected to the 'eduroam' wireless network to print to the PridePrint printers on your computer. You cannot print to the PridePrint printers on your computer while connected to 'Hofstra Guest' or when you're off campus.
