Q & A:

  1. What was your favorite class, who was your favorite professor, or what is your fondest memory of Hofstra?
It is hard to definitively state what my favorite class and professor was, as I gained invaluable lessons and knowledge from each course and professor. If I had to choose one, I would say it was Monetary Economics with Professor Robert Guttmann. Professor Guttmann’s course on how central banks affect financial markets provided me with a sound understanding and foundation of the dynamics between monetary policy and Wall Street – especially in this current market backdrop of record 40-year high inflation. I have a lot of fond memories of my time at Hofstra – too many to list! One memory that I cherish profoundly are the lifelong friendships and connections that were formed with peers and professors.
  2. What advice would you give to Hofstra students?
Hofstra University is a globally recognized research university. The resources and specialties in each department run deep, and Hofstra is a short train ride from New York City – one of the greatest and most economically robust cities in the world. My advice would be to get involved and immerse yourself in the resources that Hofstra has to offer. Students can turn to the Center for Career Design and Development for coaching and guidance (including invaluable resume critiques and mock interviews), connect with successful Hofstra graduates through the Hofstra Alumni Organization, and join any of Hofstra’s hundreds of extracurricular, pre-professional, and social organizations.

As a finance major with a minor in music, I was able to pursue both a degree in finance and my passion for music. I performed in choirs, held leading roles in Hofstra opera productions, and took courses with industry-leading conductors and opera singers. Hofstra allowed me to truly grow and have the complete university experience.
  3. In one word, how would you describe Hofstra?
Commitment. Hofstra University is committed to academic success for all students. My professors were more than teachers. They were industry experts in the investment management and broader capital markets industry – which is where I was looking to launch my career. Course content is tailored to meet both the theoretical and hands-on aspect of each student’s degree and career. For me, Hofstra’s commitment to academic excellence is forever ingrained in me. Thank you, Hofstra University!
  4. What was your first job after graduating from Hofstra, and what was the most valuable thing you learned there?
My first job was as an internal investment consultant at BNY Mellon Investment Management (IM). In this role, I was consulting with financial advisors across Northern New England in portfolio construction and investment strategies at BNY Mellon.

I have now moved on to a role as an investment consultant at BNY Mellon IM, covering the South Florida market. I travel periodically to meet with advisors about on our wide-spanning investment strategies and the various resources that BNY Mellon has to offer.
  5. Talk about your experience performing the national anthem at sporting events. When did you begin singing?
Singing is my passion. I have been singing since I was a child. I became involved with opera (which is my primary area of focus) in high school and even more so at Hofstra through Chamber Choir with globally recognized and industry-leading conductor Dr. David Fryling, Hofstra Opera Productions, and voice lessons from Hofstra professor and world-renowned opera singer Tammy Hensrud

I love to sing our national anthem. As a big sports fan, I was asked to perform at local sporting events – which has now led to some larger sporting venues like the Fairfield Properties Ballpark (home of the Long Island Ducks) and the historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, NY. I hope to one day perform at Yankee stadium, as well as at Citi Field.
  6. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Does singing play a role in your future career plans?
I see myself in a senior management role within the finance and investment management space. I plan to continue to perform as often as possible and hope to have the chance to sing the national anthem at either a Yankees or Mets game.
  7. What is the single most rewarding/exciting experience in your career thus far?
The opportunity to work, learn, and grow within one of the world’s largest financial institutions – BNY Mellon. Made possible by Hofstra University!
