Why did you choose Hofstra?

I chose Hofstra because of the strong academic programs and the ability for me to stay close to home.

Tell us about some research projects, internships, or study abroad programs you participated in.

Throughout my years at Hofstra, I have had several experiences that have transformed me as a student. I was a Marques Colston Fellow, which provided me with the opportunity to build faculty and student connections. Similarly, I am currently a peer advisor and tutor, which allows me to connect with underclassmen and give them insight on how to get the most out of their experience at Hofstra.

I have participated in several research projects with my mentors, ranging from student-athlete to ROTC focused. These projects have allowed me to develop my research, writing, and presentation skills. For senior year internship, I worked in tandem with the University’s Strength and Conditioning Coaches, which allowed me to advance my skills within the field.

I could not be more grateful for all these experiences and for the knowledge I gained.

What is your proudest Hofstra moment?

My proudest Hofstra moment was my first time presenting a research poster. Presenting to my peers, faculty and administrators and showcasing all my hard work was an amazing accomplishment.

Can you tell us some more about how you were able to participate in the ACSM Annual Meeting?

I’ve been involved with ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) for a few years. I originally got involved with the organization to become a certified personal trainer, and then heard about the Greater New York ACSM Regional Conference. I started regularly attending the conferences nearby, presenting research posters, and competing in the Annual Student Quiz Bowl. Through the Marques Colston Fellowship, I met my mentor, Dr. Ofra Pottorf. I was able to work with her on a few different research projects and got the opportunity to submit an abstract to the ACSM Annual Meeting. We got accepted, and I’ll be attending the conference in May. It is a three-night conference in Boston, and the School of Health Professions and Human Services was able to sponsor my trip so that I could attend.

What will you miss the most about Hofstra?

Looking back at my undergraduate experience, I will miss my student club and E-Board experiences, specifically the Exercise is Medicine and Pre-Physical Therapy Club. Although I know my experience will be different than my undergrad career, I am looking forward to continuing my graduate experience at Hofstra in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program this summer.

Who were your mentors and what made them special to you?

I had so many amazing mentors throughout my time here at Hofstra. All the professors in the Exercise Physiology and School of Health Professions and Human Services were tremendous, and I truly loved the classes I was taking. I must thank Dr. Sell, Dr. Ghigiarelli, Dr. Gonzalez, Professor LoNigro, Dr. Webb, and Dr. Pottorf for everything they have done for me and all the opportunities I was given. They supported me academically, professionally, and personally, both inside and outside the classroom.
