The nationally accredited Hofstra University Museum holds one of the largest private collections of public art in the New York metropolitan region. With the University's 240 acre campus as an exhibition area, the Hofstra University Museum has placed more than 75 pieces of sculpture, the clear majority of these since 1976. Since 1995, the University and the Museum actively have commissioned and originated major bronze sculptures by leading 20th century artists with the assistance of gifts and bequests to Hofstra University. The siting of these recent works has been in cooperation with the University's nationally registered arboretum to create a surprisingly engaging academic environment.
