Bio

Bruce Torff is a Professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Technology at Hofstra University, where he is director and founder of the Doctoral Program in Learning and Teaching. He has published over 75 articles and books on various topics in educational psychology, cognitive-developmental psychology, and teacher education. His research interests include educators' beliefs about learning and teaching, critical thinking skills, and professional development for educators. Torff earned a doctorate and two masters degrees at Harvard University, where he worked with Howard Gardner, and held a postdoctoral appointment at Yale University in collaboration with Robert J. Sternberg. In 2009, Torff was named Hofstra's Teacher of the Year. Torff is active as a leader of professional-development workshops for educators, consultant in research methods and statistics, and program evaluator. He is also a jazz pianist and songwriter. He lives with his wife, a teacher, and their two children on Long Island, New York.
