Jacqueline A. Burke

Dr. Jacqueline A. Burke earned a Ph.D. from New York University and has an M.B.A. and B.B.A. degree from Hofstra University.  Dr. Jacqueline Burke is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland.

Dr. Burke's research interests are primarily in auditing, with a focus on issues relating to auditor independence, cost accounting, accounting education and issues relating to technology.  She has published in various journals such as Advances in Public Interest Accounting (forthcoming), The CPA Journal, the Journal of Business Education and the Journal of Portfolio Management.  She is also a coauthor of Product Costing: Concepts and Applications, second and third editions, published by McGraw-Hill.  Dr. Burke is a recipient of the Delta Pi Epsilon Independent Research Award for her article titled "Collaborative Accounting Problem Solving Via Group Support Systems in a Face-to-Face Versus Distant Learning Environment" that was published in the Information Technology, Learning, and Performance Journal. This award is given for the best research that advances any area of business education published in any review board or editor referred journal in the country.

Dr. Burke has also served as a reviewer for various journals, accounting textbooks, and professional organizationsShe is currently a member of the board of directors for the Academy of Business Education/Journal of the Academy of Business Education.

Prior to coming to Hofstra, Dr. Burke formulated and implemented systems for a newly acquired subsidiary of The Washington Post. Dr. Burke redesigned the accounting system and control functions of the acquired subsidiary to integrate with those of the parent company. Dr. Burke also worked as an accountant in the medical, textile and restaurant industries. She has served as a member of the Long Island board of directors of the Institute of Management Accountants (I.M.A.).
