Bio

Painting is astoundingly resilient, even in our age of digital media and mass consumer culture. Its continued cultural impact derives first and foremost from the obvious pleasure it gives to both the artists who make it and the audiences for whom it is made. Just as important, contemporary painters work in the fruitful ground where painting's long and rich history mixes with the energy of the present. In the 21st century, it is never enough for a serious painter to make art that's about 'self expression'; instead, the challenge is to make art that fully participates in our times without succumbing to its pressures.
