Bio

Johanna Franklin's primary research interest is algorithmic randomness. How can we say mathematically what it means for an infinite binary sequence to be random, and what properties must a random sequence have? Her teaching interests are very broad: she has yet to teach a course she hasn't liked, and she enjoys exploring the development of mathematical ideas and showing how different areas of math are connected.

When she isn't working, she can often be found knitting, spinning, or contra dancing.

Before she arrived at Hofstra University in 2014, she held postdoctoral positions at the National University of Singapore, the Fields Institute, the University of Waterloo, Dartmouth College, and the University of Connecticut.
