Bio

Ellen Tashie Frisina is an associate professor and developed and wrote the full public relations curriculum. She oversaw the first graduating class of eight students with the PR major in 2003; today there are close to 300 public relations majors in what has become one of the top 10 majors at Hofstra. She teaches many of the courses in the curriculum, and also serves as academic adviser to PR students.  Professor Frisina is also part of the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Study Abroad program and has taught international public relations in Italy and France.

A graduate of Hofstra University (1977) and New York University (1996), Professor Frisina worked as a journalist for several years, even founding and publishing a weekly community newspaper, The Independent. She has more than 30 years of professional public relations experience, including corporate, non-profit, and consultant work. She works diligently to maintain a strong network of professionals, including former students, on whom she relies to help students attain exceptional internships and jobs after graduation. Of this, she is most proud.

Newsday has called Professor Frisina the "guru of public relations" at Hofstra.  She has twice been voted Distinguished Teacher of the Year for the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication –in 2003 and 2014. She has served on several important committees and associations at Hofstra, including as Chair of the Senate Executive Committee, where she met with representatives from throughout Hofstra to advance beneficial policies and procedures. She is the author of "College Is Not 13th Grade: A Handbook for Parents," which she lectures on each summer at New Student Orientation.
