Department of

Physician Assistant Studies

Physician assistants (PAs) are nationally certified and state licensed health professionals able to practice medicine in collaboration with physicians providing a team-based approach to quality, patient-centered care. PAs conduct physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret diagnostic tests, assist in surgery, coordinate care, counsel on preventive healthcare, prescribe medication, and more. PAs are qualified to care for patients in every medical and surgical specialty and setting such as surgery, emergency medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, and family medicine.

About the Department

The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) has granted Accreditation-Continued status to the Hofstra University Department of Physician Assistant Studies Program sponsored by Hofstra University. Accreditation-Continued is an accreditation status granted when a currently accredited program is in compliance with the ARC-PA Standards.

Accreditation remains in effect until the program closes or withdraws from the accreditation process or until accreditation is withdrawn for failure to comply with the Standards. The approximate date for the next validation review of the program by the ARC-PA will be September 2026. The review date is contingent upon continued compliance with the Accreditation Standards and ARC-PA policy.

Upon successful completion of the program, candidates are eligible to sit for the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE). See the Hofstra University PA Program graduate performance on the certifying exam (PANCE) pass rates.

The program's accreditation history can be viewed on the Accreditation website. For program related attrition and graduation rates, click here.

Meeting the program's mission and goals is the driving force behind the education students receive within the program and is integral to the success of graduate PA students. To find out more about how the program measures goals and effectiveness, click here.
