This series of workshops is an opportunity to begin writing a short story, play or novel. We will explore how to develop ideas, characters, conflict and setting in a dramatic structure that will hold your reader's attention.

The morning is structured to build writing skills through instruction, practice, writing prompts, and games. After lunch, students will have time for independent writing projects: short stories, 10-minute plays, or poetry. If you have a story in progress, you can continue it in this class.

About the Instructor: Maria Cerniello has enjoyed teaching Creative Writing courses at Hofstra for over 10 years. She is NYS certified to teach English Language Arts to middle and high school students and has studied at Teachers' College Reading and Writing Project.

There is an additional fee for transportation for one-week precollegiate camps.
