Optional Add-On for All Classic Camps

Grades 6-10

The Literacy Lounge is a relaxed, social space for campers to explore books, discover new interests, and connect with others.

Inspired by the welcoming atmosphere of an independent bookshop, the experience transforms the Reading/Writing Learning Clinic library, courtyards, and gardens into places to browse, talk, create, and read. Campers might design book displays, create reviews and recommendation cards, participate in book tastings, explore new releases, develop themed reading lists, or connect books to art, music, film, and current interests.

There is no assigned reading and no traditional academic work. Campers choose what they want to explore and can participate whether they are avid readers, occasional readers, or still searching for books that capture their interests.

Guest visits from authors, librarians, and members of the Hofstra community may also be incorporated.

The Literacy Lounge encourages campers to read by choice, share their ideas, discover new interests, and build community through books and literacy.
