CONTINUING EDUCATION
Theatre Arts at Hofstra Summer Camps
Step into the spotlight and bring an original story to the stage! In this two-week, full-day program, campers will work together to write their own play and produce it on one of Hofstra University’s theatres. From developing characters and dialogue to rehearsing scenes and creating costumes, props, and scenery, campers will experience the creative process from the first idea to the final performance. All experience levels are welcome. Each session will conclude with a show for parents and fellow campers on the final Friday afternoon showcasing the skills and creativity campers have developed throughout the program.
Theatre Arts Programs
Theatre Arts: Grades 2–5
Young imaginations take center stage as campers turn their ideas into an original play! Through theatre games, improvisation, and guided storytelling, campers will create characters, develop a story, and write dialogue together. They will practice speaking clearly, expressing emotions, and moving onstage while helping create the costumes, props, and scenery that bring their story to life. Along the way, campers will build confidence, practice cooperation, and discover how everyone contributes to a production.
Theatre Arts: Grades 6–10
Take a production from the page to the stage! Campers will collaborate to write an original play, developing its plot, characters, and dialogue before bringing it to life through rehearsal and production. Acting exercises, improvisation, and scene work will help campers strengthen their vocal expression, stage movement, and character development. Campers will also explore the production process through blocking, costume and prop creation, and set design, taking shared responsibility for a performance that reflects their ideas and creative voices.
Schedule: This will be a full day in the Theatre Arts program.
