Welcome to the web site for the Institute of Real Estate (IRE) at Hofstra University. We are glad you have taken the time to visit our site.
IRE was created to promote professionalism in the real estate industry, to serve the real estate industry and to enhance the quality of real estate practice on Long Island.
The current Board of Directors of IRE includes the following: Herb Agin, President, Edward A. Ambrosino, Edward Blumenfeld, Albert Centrella, Mark Cuthbertson, Alan Eidler, David Einbinder, Mark Hamer, Laureen Harris, Elizabeth Joyce, Gary Lewi, Robert Marks, Marc Newman, Howard Stein, Philip Wachtler, and Benjamin Weinstock. These individuals are among the finest and most professional representatives of the Long Island real estate industry and IRE is fortunate to have them as board members. You can read more about them at board biographies.
Real estate planning and development will play a critical role in the future of Long Island and the metropolitan area. IRE will provide an opportunity for real estate professionals to share experiences, lessons and articulate a regional agenda for redevelopment and investment.
Before coming to Hofstra, I served as Executive Director of Accelerate Long Island, a regional collaboration among Long Island's research institutions to accelerate the formation of an innovation-based economy. As Executive Director, I oversaw the $1 million Accelerate Long Island Seed Fund program that partnered with the Long Island Emerging Technologies Fund to invest in ten technology-based startup companies. I also secured funding from New York State to launch Accelerate Long Island's second $3 million seed fund, which will invest in up to thirty startups in the downstate region of New York State. Prior to joining Accelerate Long Island, I was the Supervisor of the Town of Brookhaven - New York's second-largest Town with 486,000 residents - for over three years. As Supervisor, I became a regional leader on the issue of economic development and served on Governor Cuomo's Regional Economic Development Council for Long Island. Currently, I run the Scott Skodnek Business Development Center, Center for Entrepreneurship, Wilbur F. Breslin Center for Real Estate Studies and Continuing Education at Hofstra.
We invite you to take a moment to read and examine in greater detail each of the events sponsored by IRE. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at 516-463-4069.
