Welcome To Adventure Education Camp 2013

For Girls and Boys Entering Grades 2-5 (Morning Specialty)
For Girls and Boys Entering Grades 6-9 (Afternoon Specialty)

Session 1: July 1 - 12
Session 2: July 15 - 26
Session 3: July 29 - August 9

This program is modeled after the popular Project Adventure and Outward Bound programs, and offers groups and individuals the opportunity to participate in a series of sequential and developmentally appropriate activities that involve mental, physical and emotional risk-taking. The program is designed to promote personal and social responsibility while developing trust (in self and others), encouraging effective communication and problem-solving skills, and enhancing teamwork. Safety and cooperation, as well as individual achievement, are essential to the program. Trained and certified instructors guide groups through the course and emphasize these qualities. For the first few days, participants will have the opportunity to experience a series of games and challenges that will promote teamwork, problem-solving, communication and trust skills. We will then begin to move off the ground in low initiative activities, such as (whale watch, mohawk walk, nitro, etc.). When participants have mastered our goals they will then have the opportunity to experience a series of high-climbing challenges. These climbs include more than a dozen different elements (e.g., climbing wall, lily pads, catwalk and sling shot). Attempting and succeeding in these activities often gives the camper a feeling of accomplishment, self-worth, and a recognition that seemingly impossible situations are in fact, quite possible. A permission form is mailed to all Adventure Education registrants. Parents must complete the form in order for the camper to participate.
