Together with the Community Development Corporation of Long Island, represented by Marianne Garvin, Executive Vice President, the Neighborhood Housing Services of NYC and NeighborWorks Insurance Alliance, the Center for Suburban Studies at Hofstra University co-sponsored a regional forum titled "Protecting Our Future: When a Natural disaster Strikes, Will We Be Ready?" A keynote address was delivered by Howard Mills, NY State Insurance Superintendent, and a video presentation was given by Leslie Chapman Henderson from the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes.
A policy discussion took place, moderated by Executive Dean of the Center for Suburban Studies, Richard V. Guardino, Jr., with panelists Dr. James Valverde, Jr., Insurance Information Institute, John Flanagan, NY State Senator and Steve Israel, US Congressman. Richard Kessel, CEO of LIPA gave the final talk titled "Call to Action." The Institute for Business and Home Safety was the exhibitor.
