The Same Computer Science Degree as On-Campus Students with No Visits to the Campus
Students who earn their degree through Hofstra's online Computer Science degree program receive the exact same degree as on-campus students. One of the most frequently asked questions from prospective students considering an online education: "Is online learning right for me?" In most ways, online education is similar to conventional on-campus instruction. The major differentiation is that online programs are designed to allow you to balance your studies with your busy personal and professional obligations.
Like a traditional on-campus computer science student, you will have various textbooks for each class. However, your classroom will be replaced by a computer and the Internet. All course lectures will be available online, and you can replay them as often as you like on your schedule. All homework, class work, writing assignments and exams are completed and submitted online. To help you stay current with class studies, you will be given a detailed course syllabus.
Some students are very creative in fitting their studies into their schedule. Some use their lunch break to catch up on reading. Others allocate time early in the day to complete their assignments. While others wait until after they put their children to bed to log on to their courses and complete their weekly work.
As an online student at Hofstra, you are never alone. Part of the tremendous benefits offered by the online Computer Science program is the unprecedented levels of support available to all students. If you run into any sort of difficulty, you may contact your course facilitator, program manager and other students in the program for help and support.
Once you get to the end of your journey and earn you degree, you will know that all the hard work has paid off. When that time comes we hope that you can work it into your schedule to attend the graduation ceremonies at our campus to celebrate your accomplishment. There you can stand next to your classmates who completed the journey with you as well as the on-campus students who have earned the same degree. We look forward to congratulating you in person, and handing you the same diploma as students who completed the degree on-campus.
