M.F.A. in Creative Writing

Hofstra University’s M.F.A. program in Creative Writing offers concentrations in fiction, poetry, playwriting, or creative non-fiction. Guided by a distinguished faculty of creative writers and scholars from Hofstra’s Department of English, students pursue a curriculum that includes studies in literature and craft as well as challenging and focused writing seminars. The program, in which students can matriculate on a full-time or part-time basis, can be completed in two or more years and culminates in a yearlong thesis project.

The M.F.A. is considered a terminal degree for writers who would like to advance their careers in fields such as publishing, teaching, and editing. For many students, engaging fully in the art and craft of writing – with the ongoing support and critical attention of a distinguished faculty – is an end in itself.
