Hofstra's Master of Arts in Public Relations program offers a curriculum designed to enhance the learning experience of both recent bachelor's degree graduates and professionals returning to college. It is designed for aspiring and committed professionals who are seeking leadership roles in the public relations profession.

With on-campus classes and a few online offerings, the 30-credit program can be completed on either a full-time or part-time basis in as little as three semesters.

Students take a core of public relations courses in:

  • PR fundamentals
  • strategic writing
  • audience research
  • media and storytelling
  • digital communication
  • PR campaigns
  • business and management
  • international relations
  • crisis strategies

Additional coursework for the Master of Arts in Public Relations is offered through the Department of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations; Hofstra's Frank G. Zarb School of Business; and other disciplines.

Students have the option of several electives including an internship or independent study. Finally, a capstone project is required of all students completing the degree.

Concen​tration in Reputation and Crisis Management

Hofstra University's master of arts in public relations program offers an optional concentration in reputation and crisis management to prepare PR professionals to manage a host of new and heightened challenges including the urgency to respond to problems in real-time on social media, fake news, culture wars, filter bubbles, hackings, the expectation that businesses should articulate political stances, and employee and endorser backlash for such stances.

Three 3-credit courses are required to complete the concentration:

PR 275 - Crisis Communication

PR 276 - Reputation Management

PR 277 – New Reputation Threats in the Fake News Era

Concentration in Marketing

Matriculated weeknight students earning a master of arts in public relations may now choose to add a concentration in marketing. Students will study marketing strategy, consumer behavior, international marketing, advertising, sports marketing, media planning, and online marketing strategies and tactics in a global environment. This concentration will prepare professionals for the 21st century's worldwide economy by highlighting integrated marketing communications and synergies between public relations, marketing and advertising. Three 3-credit courses in marketing are required to complete the concentration.
