WRHU-FM is a cornerstone of the Hofstra University School of Communication. In existence longer than any other noncommercial radio station on Long Island, WRHU has thousands of alumni stretching back almost 50 years.

Our Mission

To provide professional broadcast training to qualified Hofstra University students.

WRHU serves a diverse community by broadcasting to Long Island and New York City, as well as parts of Connecticut and New Jersey.

WRHU has an operating staff of more than 160 people, most of whom are Hofstra students.

Six School of Communication professionals supervise station operations and provide broadcasting experience, while a group of community volunteers offer life experience, individual talents and peer leadership.

Many people regard WRHU to be the top college radio station in the country for pre-professional development.

To participate at WRHU, all staff must complete a 10-week, non-credit course covering audio engineering, announcing, audio production, programming strategies, Internet broadcasting, FCC rules, and more. The course consists of classroom hours and in-studio workshops where students gain valuable hands-on experience. All staff must pass a written exam and a hands-on, in-studio equipment operating exam This deep, rich training is why WRHU is the number one college radio station for developing future broadcasters.

Students can polish their broadcasting skills doing news, sports, talk, public affairs, or hosting one of our many music shows. Rock, pop, dance, hip hop, jazz, and R&B are just some of the many musical styles featured on various shows airing on WRHU.

WRHU receives applications from more students than we can accommodate in the training classes. Competition for participation is stiff. When completing a WRHU recruitment application, provide as much additional information about yourself (i.e., resume, personal statement, demo tape) as you feel is necessary.
