Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy

The
Master of Arts In Marriage and Family Therapy is a 61
credit Masters degree which provides the skills necessary
to function as a Marriage And Family Therapist. The
program at Hofstra combines classroom instruction with
intensive field experience and includes individual supervision
in a field setting. The program, which was approved
by the New York State Education Department in 1982,
has been designed in accordance with the professional
organizations.

Professional Diploma In Therapy With A Specialization
In Marriage And Family Therapy provides the student
with a Diploma beyond the Master's level. This program
is available to experienced practitioners who, at the
time of application, are currently employed in Therapy
activities. Persons applying to this program have included
social workers, attorneys, psychologists, and mental
health therapists.

Advanced Certificate in Divorce Mediation is designed
for the practicing professional, marriage and family
therapists, psychologists, social workers, mental health
counselors and possibly attorneys who wish to better
understand divorce mediation in New York State and who
wish to specialize further in divorce mediation with
couples. This is a 19 credit program taught by psychologists,
marriage and family therapists and attorneys.

The
Advanced Certificate in Addiction Studies
|
The
Marriage and Family Therapy Programs in the Department
of Health Professions and Family Studies of Hofstra
University offers a unique approach to the study of
chemical dependence. In keeping with the programs' philosophy,
chemical dependence is studied within a family context
utilizing a systemic framework of understanding. All
of the core clinical courses are designed to provide
an integrative understanding of addiction and its impact
upon the family' from assessment, through intervention
and treatment. In addition, the program is designed
in accordance with the New York State Office of Alcoholism
and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) regulations and
will prepare students with the knowledge and skills
necessary to qualify fot he New York State examination
for Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor
(CASAC).
