for Innovative Computer Education Project
The Department of Computer Science at Hofstra University offers an exciting learning environment. Students can choose among multiple paths towards different undergraduate and graduate degrees in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. They acquire a strong foundation in programming and application development, algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems, networking and software engineering. In addition, the department offers a large variety of elective courses such as: computer graphics, computer games, mobile and web application development, artificial intelligence, embedded systems, and network security. All programs are approved by New York State and accredited by Middle States Association.
The department offers the following degrees: B.S. and B.A. in Computer Science, B.S. in Computer Engineering, dual degree B.S/M.S in Computer Science, dual major B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics and M.S. in Computer Science (on-line or on-campus). Our undergraduate majors can select an in-depth concentration or option in Computing Entrepreneurship. Students can pursue their special interests in the computing field by taking individual independent study courses with our faculty. Moreover, the B.A. in Computer Science degree offers a special Individual track where students design their own program of study. Faculty research areas include: computer vision, cognitive neuroscience, security, software engineering, data mining, and algorithms.
Our recent graduates have found a variety of jobs in different industries on Long Island, Manhattan, and beyond: from banking and financial institutions (Citibank, Bank of America), Amazon, Google, to game development companies, consulting firms, or working for small companies and start-ups. Undergraduate students interested in further studies have been accepted in MS or PhD programs at universities such Universities as Cornell University, Columbia University, University of California at Berkeley, Princeton, Stevens Institute of Technology, University of Memphis, Stony Brook University and of course The Computer Science Department at Hofstra.
