Internship & Program Opportunities for the Pre-Law Student

Below is a list of internship and program opportunities that the Center for University Advisement has provided. Please keep checking with your Advisement dean and on your Pride-CMS account for a more comprehensive list of opportunities.

The Career Center at Hofstra University assists pre-law students with the formulation of career goals, career exploration, skills and values, assessments, and decision making. The Pride-CMS is an online system that allows pre-law students to apply to full-time and part-time off-campus jobs and internships. Review employer profiles of all employers and find out about local job fair details utilizing Pride-CMS.

Hofstra Career Center – Pride CMS
The Pride-Career Management System (Pride-CMS) is convenient to use and consistent with Hofstra's national reputation as a University with leading-edge technology. Pride-CMS is an online system, which all students and alumni can access 24 hours a day, seven days a week through the Hofstra Portal. Create a profile, upload a resume, and then select "Jobs & Internships" where you will have the ability to filter your view. We recommend using the "Show Me" filter. Under "Documents," upload your Start applying for many pre-law related opportunities directly through Pride-CMS.

American Bar Association- Center on Children and the Law
Center aims to improve children's lives through advances in law, justice, knowledge, practice and public policy. Research state agency and policy procedures on areas such as child abuse and neglect, child welfare and protective services system enhancement, foster care, family preservation, termination of parental rights, parental substance abuse, adolescent health, and domestic violence.

The American Civil Liberties Union
ACLU has several internships for undergraduates and graduate/law school students. Interns assist ACLU attorneys in all aspects of litigation, including legal research, factual investigations, and drafting of memoranda, affidavits, and briefs. Interns also have the opportunity to work on Projects and Programs such as the Immigrants’ Rights Project and the Racial Justice Program.

American Jewish Committee
Three fellowships are offered to develop future leaders in the areas of international and domestic politics, diplomacy, public relations, and management. Summer internships and fellowships give young people the unique opportunity to work for a period of nine weeks full-time at offices throughout the world-from San Francisco to Geneva, Switzerland, and from New York to Melbourne, Australia, at the State Department, Department of Defense, and on Capitol Hill.

Cornell University Prelaw Program
If you’re thinking about becoming a lawyer—or simply want to know more about the law and how it affects our everyday lives. This intensive, six-week program is directed by C. Evan Stewart, one of America's most distinguished lawyers. Take a four-credit course, "Introduction to the American Legal System," gain access to a limited number of selective internship placements at law firms or in the legal department of a corporation, government agency, or nonprofit organization.

Emily’s List
EMILY’s List is the nation’s largest political network and financial resource for women candidates. Become an EMILY's List intern, gain valuable experience, and have the chance to make a difference and change the face of American politics. EMILY's List offers full- and part-time internships in six departments: political, development, research communications, administrative/finance, campaign services,

Human Rights Watch
Human Rights Watch offers academic semester and summer internships for undergraduate students in our New York, London, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Brussels, and Berlin offices. Interns may be placed in one of the following regional or thematic programs at HRW: Africa, the Americas (does not include US or Canada), Asia, Europe & Central Asia, Middle East & North Africa, United States, Arms, Children's Rights, Women's Rights, HIV/AIDS & Human Rights, Business & Human Rights, International Justice, and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Rights. Internships also are available with the Advocacy, Communications & Press, Development & Outreach, Legal & Policy,

New York State Senate
The program is intended to provide talented and able undergraduate students with firsthand experience in New York State government at the legislative level. Approximately 30 Session Assistants are selected each session. The program is meant to foster an appreciative understanding of the roles of process, personalities, and problem solving in state government. The opportunity to observe policy development is unparalleled.

Third Wave Internships
This organization reaches out to both individual young women and the overall field of philanthropy to raise awareness of sexism and provide an opportunity for young women to speak out. Within philanthropy, Third Wave aims to increase charitable dollars that support young women in social justice work. Their activities include speaking at philanthropic conferences, hosting Making Money Make Change (a gathering for progressive young people with wealth), and other strategic means.

The United States Attorney's Office-Eastern District of New York
Offers a number of student internships (volunteer-unpaid) throughout the year in both our Brooklyn and Central Islip, New York offices. This is an excellent opportunity for students studying pre-law, criminal justice, accounting, information technology, library management, human resources or community crime prevention.

United Nations Association of the United States of America
UNA-USA awards a variety of part-time and full-time internships to highly motivated high school, undergraduate and graduate students. Interns must possess a strong interest in international affairs, good writing and research skills, and formidable knowledge of the United Nations and other multilateral institutions.

Washington Internship Institute
Several internship and scholar programs are offered through WII. During the internship placement process the program director works with you to find internships that fit your interests and qualifications. Internship placement includes the White House, Amnesty International, Embassy of France, Jordan, Croatia, Chile, and hundreds of other organizations. Take your knowledge of international relations, international business, or foreign languages a step farther.
