A United States citizen who is a high school graduate or holds an equivalent certificate. The applicant must be at least 17 years old.

New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
|
First time dependent TAP recipients for 1998-99 received awards based on combined parent and student NYS net taxable income of $50,500. Awards ranged from $275 to $4,125. Awards decrease by $200 beginning fifth semester. Independent students receive lesser awards.
|
Full-time undergraduate students may receive TAP for a period of 8 semesters. The award is credited to the student's bill, once the student has received the award certificate from New York State and has submitted it to the Student Accounts Office.
|
Full-time matriculated students must maintain satisfactory academic progress and program pursuit in accordance with New York State Education Department regulations (see catalog for regulations). For 1999-2000, the family NYS net taxable income could not exceed $50,500 for dependent students or independent students with dependents. Students may apply by completing the FAFSA and the Express TAP application received from NY Higher Education.

Aid for Part-time Study Program (APTS)
|
$2,000 maximum New York State limit per school year to cover fall and spring semesters.
|
Each semester of APTS eligibility equals half a semester of TAP eligibility. A student cannot have exhausted his/her eligibility for TAP.
|
Dependent students must have a family NY State net taxable income of not more than $50,500 and an independent student with dependents net taxable NY State income may not exceed $50,500. Independent students without dependents' net taxable income cannot exceed $34,250. Students may pick up an APTS application and return the completed application to the Financial and Academic Records Office for processing. A student must apply each year and must have filed a FAFSA for the year.

Students may borrow up to $2,625 for the first year and $3,500 for the second year (completion of 24 earned credits). Third- and fourth-year students may borrow up to $5,500 (must have completed 58 earned credits). There is no interest or repayment while the student is in college. Funds are disbursed twice during the school year (at the beginning of each semester). Graduate limit is $8,500/year.

Students eligible are given a specific amount they may earn by Hofstra University's Financial and Academic Records Office. Pay rate is determined by the student job classification program.

The Financial Aid award letter will list an amount which makes the student eligible to apply at the Office of Student Employment (located in the Human Resources Center) for a variety of positions available during the academic year on a first-come, first-served basis. The maximum weekly hours a student may work are 20 while in school and additional hours during vacation periods. Summer employment is available only upon request.
