Future Crisis Committee
Tensions are rising over islands in the South China Sea. China, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines, among other states, all have competing claims over various islands, with little headway made toward a peaceful solution that satisfies all parties. If it continues along this trajectory, a small provocation could have serious consequences and lead the region toward conflict.
At the 2017 Hofstra University Model United Nations Conference, delegates to the Future Crisis Committee will take up this problem in the United Nations Security Council. Responsible for maintaining international peace and security, the Security Council must contend with highly charged political, diplomatic, and military dynamics and find a peaceful solution to this conflict.
