EdTech provides leadership and expertise in the use of innovative learning tools, instructional techniques, and course design to support faculty in teaching, learning, research, and scholarship. EdTech partners with faculty to develop and sustain campus conversations based on national and international higher education innovations and research-based practices.

Instructional Technology

The EdTech Instructional Technology Team supports the University’s enterprise teaching and learning technologies that enhance instruction across online, hybrid, and on-campus courses. The team supports and provides training for a wide range of campus-supported instructional technologies, including Canvas, Zoom, Turnitin, Gradescope, Qualtrics, Kaltura, ChatGPT Edu, Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor, VoiceThread, Simple Syllabus, WordPress, and Adobe Express.

The team also collaborates with the Senate Committee on Education and Research Technology (SCERT) to evaluate emerging instructional technologies, recommend campus-wide technology initiatives, and promote the effective adoption of digital tools that support teaching, learning, and academic innovation across the University.

Instructional Design

The EdTech Instructional Design Team partners with faculty across all instructional modalities at Hofstra University to design engaging, accessible, and effective learning experiences. Our instructional designers provide guidance on evidence-based pedagogy, course design, instructional technology, accessibility, and course development from initial planning through implementation and continuous improvement.

The team also collaborates with the Distance Learning Advisory Committee to support the advancement of high-quality online education, promote best practices in digital teaching and learning, and help shape institutional initiatives related to distance education.

Online Teaching Workshop

A fully asynchronous Canvas course designed to help faculty develop and facilitate engaging online, hybrid, and remote courses. Across five self-paced modules, participants explore course design, online teaching strategies, inclusive instruction, faculty presence, assessment, and digital teaching tools. The workshop takes about five hours; each module includes a practical assignment based on your own course and a discussion with colleagues across the University.

Course Design Institute

Join EdTech and the Center for Excellence in Learning, Teaching and Assessment (CELTA) for the Course Design Institute. This multi-day summer institute supports faculty in designing, revising, or enhancing their courses with a focus on course alignment, student engagement, and effective learning experiences.

Classroom Technology

The EdTech Classroom Technology Team supports faculty in the effective use of technology-enhanced learning spaces across Hofstra University. The team provides expertise in classroom technology, lecture capture, audiovisual systems, and instructional technology, helping faculty integrate campus-supported tools into their teaching.

In collaboration with the Classroom Committee, the team helps assess emerging instructional technologies, identify opportunities for classroom improvements, and support strategic initiatives that create innovative, flexible, and technology-rich environments for teaching and learning.
