Between the New York City skyline and the sandy Atlantic shoreline is the Hofstra campus, with easy access to the city and shore. Our location on suburban Long Island is central to who we are and how our students learn. Hofstra students live, work, and play on a traditional campus with state-of-the-art academic buildings, labs, and experiential facilities, surrounded by green quads and modern residence halls.

New York City, only an hour’s drive or train ride away, is a destination, a workplace, and a classroom for Hofstra students. Whether you take part in Explore Next Door trips with our Student Affairs team to learn about NYC, go in to the city to meet and network with alumni in your field, or work at internships and experience other career opportunities during the academic year, you will get to know and enjoy the city for all it offers. With disciplines like finance, technology, engineering, and communication, Hofstra’s location near New York City is a major advantage for our students.

Thanks to Hofstra’s location on Long Island and close to New York City there’s always plenty of options when you’re lookoing for something to do.

Each fall, Hofstra University plays host to Fall Festival, featuring world-class musical artists, a fun-filled carnival, great food , and more, as alumni, family and friends gather on-campus.

Long Island is home to plenty of beautiful sights, including the hugely popular Jones Beach, which sees over six million visitors each year.

You’d be hard-pressed to find better bagels anywhere than Long Island. and Hofstra is surrounded by great options, some that are right on campus. Don’t forget to try the iconic BEC (bacon-egg-cheese) too.

Hofstra may be in the middle of the metro New York area, but there’s small-town charm all over, including the minor-league Long Island Ducks, who are broadcast by Hofstra’s radio station.

Jump on a nearby train and you’re quickly at Penn Station, in the center of New York City, right beneath Madison Square Garden, home to some of the world’s biggest sports and entertainment events.

Roosevelt Field is one of the biggest malls in America, and features a wide assortment of the most-famous retailers, along with an extensive food court and restaurants, and a multiplex movie theater.

The New York Islanders built a new $1.2 billion arena just 20 minutes from Hofstra, where you can watch big-league sports and world-class concerts.

Hofstra’s students are heavily involved in community service, including the Shake-A-Rake community clean-up campaign.
