About the SANE Advanced Certificate Program

Using an innovative and holistic trauma informed curriculum the goal of this program is to train nurses to conduct sexual assault forensic examinations which can provide better physical and mental health care for survivors, better evidence collection, and higher prosecution rates. The program’s primary mission is to train compassionate, culturally sensitive registered nurse and to provide comprehensive trauma informed care, timely forensic evidence collection, coordination of follow-up care as well as expert testimony.

Registered nurses will be exposed to didactic and clinical experiences, emphasizing the needs of underserved, rural and diverse populations. Clinical experiences in a wide variety of interdisciplinary settings will be coordinated. The program entails a course of study that includes 40 hours of didactic coursework, 16 hours of clinical skills sessions, and a clinical skills immersion experience. The program culminates with a 200 hour preceptor and self-directed practicum.
