The Department of Religion at Hofstra University enhances students’ pursuit of professional goals as they gain understanding of religion; recognize the multiple impacts that religion exerts upon public life and people’s experience; and learn to communicate between different worldviews, navigate conflict, and deepen inclusion. With internships, research, community connections, and field trips, graduates pursue all future careers with religious literacy.

Scholar in Residence

The Religion Department hosts a Scholar in Residence, who brings fresh perspectives and active scholarship into the classroom. Through lectures, discussions, and close engagement with students, the scholar enriches the academic experience and deepens exploration of religious thought, practice, and tradition.

Sikh Studies

The Sardarni Kuljit Kaur Bindra Chair in Sikh Studies supports the academic study of the Sikh religion, culture, and history through faculty appointments, student scholarships, library resources, and public programming. Together with the Guru Nanak Interfaith Prize and the Sardarni Harbans Kaur Chair in Sikh Musicology, the endowment has helped establish Hofstra University as an internationally recognized center for Sikh studies and interfaith dialogue.
