DEPARTMENT OF

ENGLISH

About the Department

The Department of English is home to accomplished scholars and writers who explore literature from Beowulf to Shakespeare to contemporary voices. With programs in literature, creative writing, and publishing studies, the department prepares graduates for a wide range of careers and lifelong engagement with the transformative power of language and storytelling.

A community of scholars, writers, and educators whose work spans literature, creative writing, publishing studies, and cultural studies make up the faculty of the English Department. Through teaching and research, faculty foster critical thinking, creative expression, and a deep engagement with language across historical and contemporary contexts.

The Student Experience

Hofstra’s proximity to New York City enriches the curriculum and provides incomparable opportunities for internships and experiential learning, while our literary journal and event series offers opportunities right on campus.
