Hofstra Partners with

CARECEN

Hofstra University has recently partnered with the Central America Refugee Center (CARECEN). Hofstra students can volunteer to support CARECEN by providing tutoring in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and civics to help our University’s new immigrant neighbors become more integrated in the economic, social, and cultural fabric of the greater New York metropolitan area.

CARECEN has provided high quality legal assistance to immigrant communities across Long Island for more than 35 years. CARECEN currently offers a variety of legal and educational services to immigrants from more than 70 countries, to include citizenship application assistance, preparation for the citizenship interview, and ESOL classes.

How Hofstra Students Can Get Involved

Hofstra students can get involved in the Hofstra-CARECEN project by enrolling in a credit-bearing, community-engaged learning class or by volunteering outside a credit-bearing course.

For questions about participating, with or without credit, contact the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences dean’s office at 516-463-5417 or email hclas@hofstra.edu with the subject line CARECEN.

How Hofstra Faculty Can Get Involved

If you are a faculty member in Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and would like to embed a community-engaged project at CARECEN in your class but have questions, please contact the HCLAS dean's office.
