Specialized Programs in Education

Welcome to the Department of Specialized Programs in Education (SPE).  We invite you to become acquainted with the faculty, staff and the diverse spectrum of academic programs that are offered.  Studies in health and physical education can be done at undergraduate and graduate level, including a unique five-year dual degree dual certification program.  Graduate degrees range from master’s level preparation to advanced certificates and doctoral study in the following fields: leadership, literacy studies and special education.  SPE faculty are committed to preparing reflective educators and leaders prepared to work in a wide range of school, community and university settings.

  • Message from the Chair

    Welcome to the Department of Specialized Programs in Education. Our department contains several dynamic programs at the undergraduate, Masters and doctoral level. These programs, which are offered at a variety of K – College developmental levels, are designed to prepare 21st century educators for the changing outlook in education. Field experiences, internships, and experiential learning opportunities enable students to gain practical experience in a wide range of educational settings.

    SPE programs include Literacy Studies, Special Education, Physical Education, Health Education, and Leadership and Policy Studies. Experts in their respective fields, the faculty in our department are committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
