Classroom learning becomes career readiness through real-world experience. Hofstra’s Computer Engineering students gain a major advantage through the DeMatteis School Co-op Program, which provides full-time, paid industry placements before graduation.

With more than 200 corporate partners nationwide, students secure six- to eight-month roles that build skills and networks and often lead to job offers. Many also pursue local internships alongside coursework.

Interested students can conduct full-time summer research through the Advanced Summer Program in Research (ASPiRe).

All six major programs in the Department of Computer Science (BA and BS in Computer Science, and BS in Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Data Science and Machine Learning, and Computer Science and Mathematics) begin by laying a strong foundation in the essential building blocks of a career in computing. These programs include courses in problem-solving and program design, data structures and algorithms, and mathematics. Cybersecurity, Data Science and Machine Learning has in addition unique fundamental courses in their degrees. From these fundamentals, students move on to classes that delve more deeply into their specific majors and degrees.
