This program is designed for teachers who are certified in Early Childhood or Childhood General Education. Graduates of the Hofstra program are prepared for New York State certification in Childhood Special Education and Teaching Students with Severe and Multiple Disabilities. The Hofstra Early Childhood Interdisciplinary Professionals (HECIP) and Hofstra Early Childhood Intervention Specialist (HECIS) programs are funded by the United States Department of Education- Office of Special Education. The HECIP program is for students who do not have any background in teacher education preparation. The HECIS program is for students who have been previous certified in early childhood or childhood education. Both programs prepare excellent teachers with New York State certification. Graduates will be able to teach in a variety of classroom settings while receiving substantial scholarship support.
