Why Study Mathematics
A mathematics degree from Hofstra gives you a powerful foundation for careers in business, finance, computer science, engineering, education, and the physical sciences. You’ll build strong skills in both pure and applied mathematics and be able to tailor your studies through the BS in Mathematics with Actuarial Science Option and the BS in Mathematical Finance or program, preparing you for teaching, industry, research, and more.
Beyond coursework, you can engage deeply with the department through seminar talks by visiting scholars, clubs such as the Math Club and Actuarial Science Club, and opportunities to compete in the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition or solve the Problem of the Month. Many students also gain valuable experience as peer tutors in the Math Tutoring Center, strengthening both mastery and communication skills.
