Advice for first year: Put yourself out there! The beginning of your college experience is filled with so many moments you will cherish forever. Join the club, talk to new people, and do things that excite you!

Advice for first year: Take advantage of all the new opportunities around you. Even if you’re slightly interested in joining a club or taking a certain class, give it a go – you’ll bever know unless you try!

College search tip: (It sounds cliche but….) After visiting campus, if you have that feeling in your stomach where you can imagine yourself at that school every day- lean into it and apply! You’ll most likely be spending more time on campus than your home (regardless if you commute or dorm) for the next four years, so you want to choose somewhere that feels safe and like home to you. Facts and information are important… but pay attention to how the school (and the people!!!) make you FEEL.
Advice for first year: Say yes to new opportunities, even if out of your comfort zone. Don’t cheat yourself out of experiences! You’ll learn a lot about yourself in these next four years.

College search tip: Do some self-discovery on the type of person you are. Once you have narrowed down some of your quirks and passions, look for colleges that have clubs and organizations on campus that align with your personality. That way, you’re more likely to find a campus community where you feel at home and connect with people who share your interests.
Advice for first year: Don’t be afraid to say hi to someone you’ve never met! It can be so overwhelming coming into a place where you don’t know anyone, but everyone else is in the same boat as you. A simple hi can go a long way!

Trust your instincts. Selecting a college or university will be one of the first major decisions that you’ll make. It’s important for you to make an informed decision. You’ll also find, however, that your final choice will be emotionally based on a feeling about where you will best fit in and be most happy. Even amongst colleges which are similar in size, quality and academic offerings, each is unique in atmosphere, student diversity, and general feel. In the end, one college will most likely “feel right” to you. You’ll be able to easily imagine yourself as a student there. Go with your instincts!

Be honest with yourself through the process. You will experience great personal growth and find out a lot about yourself and the kind of environment you are seeking. Ask questions of the current [college] students you meet on campus and then observe the interactions among students as they move about on campus [in a coffee shop or in the quad] in their natural everyday routine. You will learn a lot about the “campus culture” through this experience.
Advice for first year:
College life is very fast-paced. Keep yourself organized and take advantage of the opportunities that are available (academic and co-curricular), but be careful not to overload yourself. Most new students are anxious about meeting new people and making friends, so do not be afraid to be the first to reach out to someone new and introduce yourself.

College search tip: Put everything in prospective, definitely make a pros & cons list. Don’t make a decision based on pictures or other people’s opinions. Go & actually check out all the schools first-hand, & if you can envision yourself at that school for four years or more, you’re on the right path.

In the past 17 years I travelled extensively in the East and the West for implementing projects, attending and organizing conferences, or pursuing degrees, etc.

When I’m not reading applications…: I enjoy reading, cooking, jogging or simply spending time with my family and friends.
My most memorable college experience: I took an internship at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, which not only broadened my horizon, but also helped me to make up my mind to pursue a career in international education to promote the exchanges and cooperation among the young people from different countries/cultures/languages.
If I could go anywhere in the world: I would like to go to anywhere that I have not visited, e.g. Greece, Egypt, Australia, Brazil.
Advice for the first year of college: First year of college is a time for you to celebrate your independence, prepare for a future full of opportunities and embrace a world of infinite possibilities. It is also a time for you to witness your growth and face a lot of challenges. My advice is to make full use of all resources around you and explore your potential. Most importantly, enjoy yourself!
College search tip: It is important to make an informed decision. So, talk to admissions counselors via email, on-line chat, education fair or meet them. Do your own research online. If it is possible, take a campus tour. Feel it with your heart. Follow your instinct.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I have visited many different countries, but I still want to be able to travel and see the entire United States. We have so many amazing places in the in the USA that we sometimes forget that it is right within our reach.
College search tip:
The best way to really get a feel for a college is by visiting the campus, taking a tour, meeting with students, attending a class, reading the campus newspaper and eating in the cafeteria. You have to feel “at home” at the place where you will spend the next four years of your life, so visiting is important.
Advice for the first year of college:
College is the time for you to really discover who you are, what you enjoy doing, what you’re good at, and what you want to be. It’s not a race, take your time and enjoy exploring your options.

College search tip: Take a deep breath and make sure you’re in a good headspace before visiting different campuses! The college search process can be overwhelming and it’s hard to get a feel for a school if you’re stressed out.
Advice for the first year: Start new traditions for yourself. I think this is such an important part of building a new home for yourself. It can really help the new chapter of life feel less scary!
