Future Plans:
Seeking a position as a pediatric emergency nurse

When I was deciding where to go to college, I wanted a place where I could really get involved and make a difference. That’s exactly what I found at the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies.

I had the chance to step up in ways I never expected. I started Hofstra’s Lifestyle Medicine Interest Group and became a founding leader of the Men in Nursing student club. I also served as class representative for the Student Nurses Association. Those experiences helped me grow as a leader and pushed me outside my comfort zone in the best way.

The school’s partnership with Northwell Health gave me incredible clinical experiences that prepared me for what nursing really looks like. At the same time, I never felt overwhelmed. Hofstra’s professors genuinely care and want to see you succeed.

Some of my favorite memories  are the simple ones – late night studying in the library, playing basketball at the Fitness Center, and just hanging out with friends who became like family.

If you’re looking for a place where you’ll be supported, challenged, and able to lead, Hofstra is it.

More About Mark

When Mark arrived at Hofstra University, he saw more than a campus close to home. He saw possibility.

As a student in the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies, Mark entered a relatively new undergraduate nursing program determined to make a difference. He quickly immersed himself in leadership, becoming founding president of Hofstra’s Lifestyle Medicine Interest Group, where he promoted evidence-based lifestyle interventions, and he helped elevate underrepresented voices in health care as founding vice president of the Men in Nursing student club.

Mark used his leadership roles to strengthen connections between Hofstra and the surrounding communities and to raise funds for health and inclusion programs. As class representative for the Student Nurses Association, he spearheaded fundraising efforts that supported the New York Special Olympics Polar Plunge and the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

Clinical rotations through Hofstra’s partnership with Northwell Health shaped his professional confidence and sharpened his skills. Yet one of his most meaningful experiences came from outside the traditional hospital setting. With encouragement from a Hofstra professor, Mark worked as a camp nurse’s assistant at Camp Horizons in Connecticut. The role reinforced his passion for working with children and confirmed his ambition to become a pediatric emergency nurse.

After graduation, he plans to return to camp as a nurse’s assistant while preparing for the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Exam) and earning his RN license.

Mark appreciates the impact Hofstra had on his personal and self-development.  Late-night study sessions in the library, pickup basketball games at the Fitness Center, and friendships built across classrooms and clinical sites created a community he will carry with him long after commencement.

“Hofstra makes it easy to get involved and meet people,” Mark said. “The relationships I built here will last a lifetime.”

Mark’s story isn’t unique at Hofstra. In fact, 88% of 2023-2024 undergraduate degree recipients from the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies reported that they were employed or had started or were planning to start graduate school within one year of graduation. Results are based on data collected from the Alumni Outcomes survey, LinkedIn, National Student Clearinghouse, and Hofstra enrollment (81% knowledge rate). Visit hofstra.edu/outcomes for detailed information.
