Vice President, Ammann & Whitney Consulting Engineers
Mr. Sluszka graduated from Hofstra University in 1977 with a bachelor of science degree in engineering science. He is a registered professional engineer in six states with over 25 years of experience in bridge inspection, design, and construction engineering. He began his engineering career with Nassau County Department of Public Works and, in 1978, joined the world-renowned bridge engineering firm, Steinman Boynton Gronquist & Birdsall. He served in various professional capacities on assignments for the rehabilitation of all four of New York City’s East River Bridges, and has overseen projects on the Golden Gate, George Washington, Verrazano Narrows and other notable U.S. bridges. He has also been in charge of major international engineering projects, such as construction engineering for Denmark’s Great Belt Suspension Bridge and the design of the proposed world-record span bridge crossing the Strait of Messina between Sicily and mainland Italy. From 1996 to 2001, he was president of the Steinman firm. He is presently in charge of long-span bridge engineering for Ammann & Whitney, a company also renowned for engineering of major bridges, including the design of New York’s Verrazano Narrows Bridge.
Mr. Sluszka has published and presented numerous technical and management papers, has lectured at universities and major industry events, and has appeared on national and international television features about long-span bridges.
