Advisory Board
John J. Smith
Manager, Underwriters Laboratories Inc.
John Smith has been a member of the Hofstra Industry Advisory Board since 1999. He received his BSEE from the University of the State of New York in 1980 and is a certified quality engineer through the American Society for Quality since 1986.
Mr. Smith has been employed at Underwriters Laboratories Inc., located in Melville, New York, since 1977, and is currently responsible for managing an engineering department of 100 staff members. His responsibilities include providing the engineering evaluation of products with regard to safety in assigned product categories such as appliances, lighting, power distribution and industrial controls. Mr. Smith serves as UL liaison to assigned industries, chairs technical industry meetings and implements technological advancements into UL standards.
