Hofstra University's Department of Engineering offers degree programs in five distinct areas: Biomedical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering. We recently completed $4 million in renovations and new equipment that provide students with a chance to work on technologically advanced instruments right away, such as a supersonic wind tunnel and an atomic force microscope. We value and encourage collaboration among our students, as well as undergraduate research collaborations with our faculty. Our professors have won multi-million dollar National Science Foundation grants, served as consultants for national research labs, and been invited to the Baseball Hall of Fame to lecture on the application of engineering tools and techniques to baseball. You will have a raft of opportunities to apply what you learn outside the classroom. Off-campus, co-op programs and internships with world-class companies in the New York metro area provide robust real-world experience. On-campus, there are student chapters of more than a dozen professional engineering organizations, every year, we host the annual regional U.S. FIRST high school robotics contest, in which our students serve as team mentors.
Companies and institutions such as Underwriter's Laboratory, The United States Patent and Trademark Office, Estee Lauder, Lockheed-Martin and Goldman Sachs have hired our recent graduates. Recent alumni also have gone on to graduate programs at institutions such as Cornell University, Columbia University, Carnegie-Mellon University, and Northwestern University to study engineering as well as other fields such as law, business, and medicine.

Hofstra Engineers New Way to Teach Math
The professors knew they were onto something when the kids began to argue. It was a middle school math class, and the students were hashing out how to design and build a skyscraper to specific volume, ratio and area specifications – an exercise in geometric reasoning that is at the heart of a new curriculum called WISEngineering, which is being developed by Dr. David Burghardt... | more |
