Engineering Manager, MITEQ

Mr. Philips received his BSEE degree from Widener University in 1988 and is pursuing his MSEE at Brooklyn Polytech. Mr. Philips currently manages both production and new product development.

Mr. Philips joined MITEQ as an engineer in 1988. He has exemplary management capabilities and directs complex engineering projects that result in enhanced MITEQ products.

From 1988 through 1996, he developed broad technical capabilities as a project engineer, specializing in the on-time delivery of custom ground-based satellite communication hardware. He was also responsible for creating all the documentation required, from quotation through acceptance test procedures and operations and maintenance manuals.

From 1996 through 1999, he continued to increase his technical knowledge and developed managerial capabilities as a project manager. He managed a team of engineers that developed customized ground-based satellite communication equipment as well as numerous standard product lines, such as redundant low-noise amplifier systems, dual-, tri-, and quad-band frequency converters, booster amplifiers, and test translators in both indoor and outdoor packages.

From 1999 through 2002, Mr. Philips became the engineering manager in charge of RF system design. His responsibilities expanded to include:

  • Act as direct engineering liaison between research and development, manufacturing and testing.
  • Make budgetary recommendations and advise department head in matters concerning departmental cash flow.
  • Assign, direct and coordinate engineering project managers in the planning required to meet schedules with maximum efficiency, quality and cost objectives.
  • Responsible for the preparation of technical and cost proposals, maintaining liaison between marketing area and customers.
  • Plan, direct and supervise a multi-disciplinary staff of engineers.

In 2002, Mr. Philips was appointed the assistant department head. He currently supervises a staff of over 100 that generates over 40 million dollars in gross sales annually. He directs department-wide research, design and development programs. He is continuously responsible for seeing that quality and performance standards are established to meet customer's requirements. He also reviews and assists with all department technical presentations.
