CENTER FOR CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
Campus programming is central to the mission of the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE). Through lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and campus conversations, the CCE brings together students, faculty, staff, and community members to explore today’s most pressing issues and consider opportunities for meaningful civic action.
These programs encourage students to strengthen their civic knowledge, engage thoughtfully with diverse perspectives, and develop the confidence and skills to participate in public life. By fostering respectful dialogue and informed discussion, the CCE helps prepare students to navigate complex issues and contribute to their communities.
Annual Programs
Each year, the CCE collaborates with students and faculty to present programs that complement academic coursework and address timely social, civic, and global issues, including:

International Scene
The International Scene series features Hofstra faculty and distinguished guest speakers who examine current international issues and their global impact, providing opportunities for informed discussion and analysis.
Pop-Up Events
When significant events shape public discourse, the CCE responds by organizing timely campus conversations that provide context, encourage thoughtful dialogue, and promote informed civic engagement.
Recent programs have explored topics such as the war in Ukraine and the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. In response to student interest, the CCE has also offered hands-on programming, including a daylong institute on community organizing where students worked alongside local leaders to develop strategies for addressing issues such as environmental sustainability and immigration.
