About the Department

The Department of Geology, Environment, and Sustainability explores how Earth’s systems work and how we can live sustainably within them. Through hands-on fieldwork, research, and lab study, students study geology, climate, environmental science, and policy, gaining the knowledge and experience to tackle local to global challenges through science, innovation, and environmental stewardship.

Internships and Experiential Learning

Through hands-on courses, labs, field work, and research, students learn by doing both in and beyond the classroom. Experiential learning, mentored undergraduates research, and professional communication are central to the curriculum and prepare students to become involved professionals in their chosen field. Opportunities to participate in off campus internships and present research at conferences and in publications help students to distinguish themselves when they enter the job market or apply for advanced study.
