African Studies at Hofstra University introduces students to the study of African societies, languages and cultures. This undergraduate program offers a broad spectrum of courses in the humanities, social sciences, and the natural sciences. Hofstra currently offers a B.A. and a minor in African Studies.
Why focus on African Studies? The continent is the cradle of mankind, and peoples of African descent currently play a vital role in every part of the world. Africa has not only the largest number of spoken languages but also a disproportionate quantity of the world’s raw materials. Its flora, fauna and mineral resources are fueling the economies of the developing world.
Hofstra University offers language courses in Swahili and study abroad opportunities.
