UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS IN

For decades Hofstra has played a critical role in the national political dialogue. Each time Hofstra hosts a political debate; one of its renowned presidential conferences; or another headline-making event or series, such as Hofstra Votes, students are immersed in the political process. They gain opportunities to meet political leaders and renowned historians, see national and local media at work, attend panels, and interact with the staff of various political parties.

Hofstra is home to the Eta Pi chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. Members of Pi Sigma Alpha can be found in the highest ranks of American government, including presidents, senators, representatives, and Supreme Court justices. Members can also be found in state and local governments, academia, the legal profession, journalism, and business.

The Democrats of Hofstra University encourages and develops the participation of young Americans in the political process and the Democratic Party. Hofstra College Republicans is a political action committee organized to establish, promote, and defend conservative ideology.

The Model United Nations club focuses on international politics in the style of the UN. The club also has activities that focus on public speaking and diplomacy.

Students gain hands-on experience beyond campus. Annual trips to Washington offer insider views of Congress and networking with Hofstra’s extensive alumni network in D.C. Our Field Study at the United Nations course features briefings and conversations with diplomats along with the opportunity to explore the United Nations and diplomatic missions in New York City. During competitive presidential nomination processes in the past, students have traveled to New Hampshire to attend presidential primary events and engage with candidates, scholars, and national media.
